When you import orders with new addresses into Track-POD, they are geocoded for display on the map or for route optimization. However, you may occasionally encounter yellow or red exclamation marks near the addresses, indicating potential geocoding issues. Here’s what these marks mean and how to resolve them.
Understanding the Exclamation Marks
- Yellow Exclamation Mark: This indicates that the Google Geocoding API has returned an "Approximate" response for the provided address. This means that Google was unable to pinpoint the exact building (rooftop address) and instead provided coordinates for a nearby approximate area. While this may not always be a critical issue, it’s essential to verify the accuracy of the address for successful deliveries.
- Red Exclamation Mark: This mark signifies that no results were found for the address, which typically occurs when the address is entirely incorrect or incomplete. This can lead to significant delivery issues, so it’s crucial to address these errors promptly.
How to Fix These Discrepancies
1. Filter Problematic Addresses: Start by clicking the exclamation mark in the heading of your address list. This action will filter out the approximate and non-geocoded addresses, allowing you to focus on the problematic ones.
2. Edit Address Window: Click on the exclamation mark next to the address in question to open the Edit Address window. This will give you the opportunity to make necessary corrections.
3. Find Address on the Map: Click the Find address on the map button. If the pin is incorrectly placed, you can edit the address directly. If the address still cannot be geocoded, try clicking on the map at the correct pin location and select Get Address. This feature allows you to manually adjust the location for accuracy.
4. Save Changes: Once you are satisfied with the corrected address, click Save. This action will update the Track-POD Directories -> Addresses, ensuring that your records reflect the accurate information.
